SleeveNotes is an app that plays your Apple Music with an AI DJ who talks between songs. It is made by Applied Digital Labor ("we"). This policy explains what SleeveNotes collects, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Your account. When you Sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymous Apple user ID. We never see your Apple ID password. We do not receive your name, and we do not ask for your email address.
Your settings. Your DJ's name, personality, voice, how much it talks, and the optional extras you turn on.
What you listen to in SleeveNotes. The songs played, skipped or finished, and the stations and moods you choose, so the DJ and stations can suit you.
Your taste summary (only if you turn on "Learn from my Apple Music"). A short summary, made on your device, of favourite artists, genres and eras and what you have on repeat. Your full library and playlist names never leave your device.
Your area (only if you turn on local weather, local news, events or similar extras). Your town, and a location rounded to about 1 km (0.6 miles), worked out on your device. Your precise location is never sent.
Calendar (only if you turn on calendar notices). The titles and times of upcoming events, read on your device and sent only to write a DJ line about them.
Technical data. A push notification token for your device, and basic logs (such as the network address a request came from) needed to keep the service running and secure.
How we use it
Only to run SleeveNotes for you: to sign you in, write and voice your DJ's lines, build stations and playlists, show facts, weather, news and events, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your data, show ads, track you across other apps or websites, or use your data to train AI models.
Who processes it
Your DJ's lines and voices, your stations and your moods are made on our own servers in the United States.
Playlist requests (the words you type and the songs you recently played or skipped) are processed by an AI service, Ollama Cloud, to suggest songs.
Apple provides music playback (Apple Music), Sign in with Apple and notifications.
For weather, news and events, our server sends no information about you, only an area: a location rounded to about 1 km to MET Norway and the U.S. National Weather Service, a wider area to Ticketmaster, and your town's name to NewsData.io.
Song facts come from Wikipedia, Wikidata, MusicBrainz, AcousticBrainz and Discogs. No personal data is sent to them.
Our network provider, Cloudflare, carries traffic to our servers securely and hosts this website.
Some DJ voices add an inaudible watermark that marks the audio as AI-generated.
How long we keep it
Account and settings: until you delete your account.
Listening history: 90 days, then deleted. Skip patterns we learn from it fade over time and are deleted with your account.
Taste summary: replaced with each update; deleted when you turn learning off or delete your account.
Your area: not stored with your account. Weather, news and events are kept briefly for each area, shared by everyone there.
Calendar titles: kept only inside a prepared DJ line, for at most a few hours.
DJ voice recordings: at most 24 hours.
Logs: 30 days.
Backups of our servers: kept for disaster recovery and not deleted on a schedule, so data from a deleted account can remain in older backups. Backups are encrypted, access to them is restricted, and they are never used for anything else. If a backup is ever restored, every account deletion made since that backup is applied again before the service resumes.
Your choices
You can turn off any optional extra in Settings at any time. Settings › Account › Delete account removes your account and everything tied to it from our servers and disconnects Sign in with Apple. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account.
Children
SleeveNotes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
